Flipagram was a social media app which allowed users to create short videos by combining photos, music, and text. Launched in 2012 and quickly becoming popular among social media users, Flipagram eventually changed to Vigo Video before being acquired by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
Flipagram was founded by Farhad Mohit, co-founder of the Shopzilla price comparison website. Mohit wanted to create an accessible platform that enabled people to create and share short videos with friends and family easily - and quickly achieved popularity; by 2015, it boasted more than 200 million registered users!
Flipagram was noted for its ability to add music to videos. Users could select from an extensive catalog of popular songs or upload their own. Furthermore, users could add text overlays and filters to create visually appealing content quickly and efficiently.
Flipagram was used by people worldwide to share personal moments, create music videos and showcase their creativity. But, unfortunately, Flipagram faced tough competition from social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, which made its use increasingly challenging. Therefore, in 2016, Vigo Video was created to differentiate itself from similar apps.
After being acquired by ByteDance, the app was integrated into TikTok - one of the world's most popular social media platforms. Users still create short videos featuring music and text on TikTok today, making it convenient for people to express themselves creatively online while networking.
